Diamonds and Doom is my thirty-second western/frontier novel. I wrote it in the fall of 2021, and it was published by Thorndike Press in September of 2023. It was on the schedule to be published by Five Star, but Five Star discontinued its western line, so it was released as a large print original by Thorndike. (All of my previous Five Star titles were reprinted as large print editions by Thorndike, as both companies were owned by Cengage.) This novel had a bit of a delay in its release, but it made its appearance in durable format with an intriguing cover.

“Darlings of the Dust” is a short story that appears in the anthology Contention and Other Frontier Stories, released by Five Star Publishing in May 2019. In my story, the cowboy detective named Dunbar (from his own series of Dark Prairie, Death in Cantera, and others) arrives in the town of Westlock, Wyoming, and goes to work at the Paradise Valley Ranch.
Continue readingDeath in Cantera is my twenty-fourth western/frontier novel, my fifth book with Five Star, and my second Dunbar story. I wrote it in 2013, and it came out in early 2016. By the time I wrote this novel, I had an established relationship with Five Star, so I could think about writing a story with that publisher in mind. Also, because Dark Prairie had done well with reviews, sales, and an award, and because the people at Five Star liked Dunbar, I had encouragement to write another novel with him as the somewhat mysterious sleuth.
